Tempo

Tempo is a key multi-residential development in the North Coogee precinct. The 68 apartments are targeted at the mid-point of the market for the desirability of the location. The mix of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments reflects the developer’s target market of affluent singles or couples, with some provision for couples requiring 2 bedrooms and families on the ground floor, adjacent to the park reserve.

The same developer has entry-level and higher-end projects within the precinct. The high-end development, ‘The Summer’ was completed by With Architecture Studio (With Studio)  in 2011.

The architecture is conceived to reinforce the urban site gesture with a refined banding of concrete and aluminium. The overall formal language is articulated by large recesses, which contain individual balconies. The balcony recesses in the facade are a response to the shading requirements of the West facing Aspect of the long facades. The courtyard site response allows a cooling cross-ventilation through from the courtyard windows to the external balconies, driven by the sea breezes of the Fremantle coast.

The collection of multiple dwellings into strong unifying formal gestures is a characteristic of With Studio’s approach to the design of multi-unit residential buildings. These gestures are driven by a construction logic and urban programme, alongside the aesthetic intent. This programme for social spaces extends to the design care which is proposed to the shared spaces of the developments. In this way, we hope to create more cohesive and better quality spaces for the community of residents to occupy.
