Tempo

Tempo is a key multi-residential development in the North Coogee precinct. The 68 apartments are targeted at the mid-point of the market for the desirability of the location. The mix of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments reflects the developer’s target market of singles or couples, with some provision for 2 bedroom apartments and families on the ground floor, adjacent to the park reserve.

The same developer has entry-level and higher-end projects within the precinct. The high-end development, ‘The Summer’ was completed by With Architecture Studio (With Studio)  in 2011.

The architecture is conceived to establish an urban presence in a new single-cottage suburb, by utilising horizontal bands of concrete and aluminium that emphasise Tempo’s scale contrast with its context. The formal language is articulated with deep recesses that contain individual balconies that also double as shading of the long West-facing facade. The interior courtyard allows a cooling cross-ventilation driven by the sea breezes off the Fremantle coast.

The collection of multiple dwellings into a unifying formal gesture is a characteristic of With Studio’s approach to multi-unit residential buildings. These gestures are integrated into a construction logic and urban programme, alongside the aesthetic intent. This programme for social spaces extends to shared activities, to create a more cohesive and better environment for the community of residents.
